Healthcare — hospital energy management

Hospital Energy Monitoring & Electricity Cost Calculation

Energy monitoring for a public hospital with rooftop solar — power-meter data in Siemens Energy Manager PRO, with dashboards of use per building and the electricity cost calculated from it.

Role
Energy monitoring set-up and electricity cost calculation
Company
P.A.M Engineering & Automation
Period
Jan 2024 – Dec 2024
Platforms
Siemens Energy Manager PRO · Siemens SENTRON PAC5200
Power meters in the hospital's distribution boards reporting to Energy Manager PRO, which shows electricity use per building and its cost.

Highlights

  • Electricity use shown per building instead of one number on the utility bill
  • Electricity cost calculated from the measured energy, not estimated
  • Dashboards the hospital's facilities team can read without engineering software

Problem

A large public hospital, which was also installing rooftop solar, wanted to know where its electricity went and what it cost. The utility bill gave one figure for the whole site; nobody could say which building used what, or what that use was costing.

My role & scope

My part was the monitoring and the money: setting up energy monitoring in Siemens Energy Manager PRO from the SENTRON power meters in the distribution boards, and calculating the electricity cost from the measured energy.

Approach

Measured, not estimated

The PAC5200 meters in the distribution boards report voltage, current, power and energy for each building. Energy Manager PRO stores those readings and shows them as dashboards of use per building, with trends and gauges.

From kWh to baht

The energy readings are turned into an electricity cost, so the facilities team sees what each building’s use is costing, not only how many kilowatt-hours it took.

Delivery

  • Energy monitoring configured in Energy Manager PRO for the meters on site
  • Electricity cost calculation from the measured energy
  • Walk-through with the hospital’s engineers at handover

Result

  • Electricity use and cost visible per building instead of one monthly figure
  • A measured baseline for the hospital’s energy-saving work and its solar plant
